Some more unexpected beauty - I don't recall ever noticing this amazing art nouveau building in Brisbane CBD before...conveniently had my very portable 24-120mm all purpose lens in hand to zoom in on the wonderful details. Also spatial contrast of colour

Portability and capturing unexpected beauty - spotted this on the way in to a client shoot, and rather than snap with the very portable iphone in my pocket, kept my real camera out of the bag after the shoot, ready to catch spontaneous photo ops on the way back to the car

Breaking conventions - aligning the diagonals with the frame edge, so verticals become diagonals for a more dynamic and satisfying image

Breaking conventions while also achieving viewer satisfaction - using a hard light on silver to create defined shadows on a featureless mannequin head. Hard light is a huge technical no-no for silver due to specular highlights, and the dark, defined shadows can overpower and distract from the jewellery. The formless head would normally not be suitable for displaying jewellery, as it looks odd and can alienate the viewer by crossing into Uncanny Valley territory. But all of this works for this unconventional silver crown, highlighting it's edginess for an interesting and satisfying image. Crown by Judy Keogh.

Colour relationships - spatial contrast. Smaller brighter green as focal point contrasts against the larger, neutral colours. The bright white of the mannequin has been balanced against the darker tones by limiting its size, placing it towards the edge of frame with the brooch (focal point) closer to the centre, and increased shadows to limit the brightness of the white.
